Habit:

Flower ant is a minute, colorful, glassy smooth species. In the field, it can be spotted by it's elongated, shining black body that is often lighter in the middle section. Colonies are capable of recruiting in high numbers to baits and natural food resources, and the species often invades habitations. Closer inspection reveals a sparse scattering of erect white pilosity, an elongate head, and a relatively long petiolar peduncle.

Diet:

Living and dead insects. Tend sap-sucking insects, collecting honeydew.Visit flowers and extrafloral nectaries of plants. Forage for protein and sweets in structures.



Reproduction:

Flight Season: No flights, reproduction by budding only. Queens never have wings.

As Pest :

Foragers inside house eating crumbs in kitchen and elsewhere. Sometimes also seen outside on buildings. Indoor nests controlled by baits. Barrier sprays can keep foragers from entering structures through cracks or window screens. Argentine ants
